I "won" this on ebay the other night after a session of drunk bidding last weekend. As you well know, drinking and ebay don't mix and I've learnt the hard way many, many times. The term "winning" really doesn't apply to this auction, even for £2.99.

What a piece of shit! If I saw this at the time (1991) I really hope I thought it was shitty then, I like to think I've always had SOME degree of taste. The video is made up of footage from vert comp after vert comp with a ton of Powell warehouse and terrible "street" contests thrown in. The only actual street footage is kind of sparsely peppered throughout the video at irregular intervals - just when you finally get to see a glimpse of someone like Ocean Howell and think "Yes! Here we go!" he swiftly disappears to be replaced by yet another vert comp.

It's from a time when vert was really flogging a dead horse and boy does it show here. It seems almost all the tricks are varial-y revert-y airs that were too hard to do high so they just sort of crouch in the air just above the coping. No wonder none of us kids were into it, it looked stinking. When Hosoi makes an appearance somewhere after the halfway mark (I think it was about then, I was drifting off) he sticks out like a sore thumb with his big airs and powerful style. Vert had gotten stale and I'm pretty sure this vid did it no favours.

The street comps are even less interesting. Everybody is in pretty much full pads and lids and the 1991 idea of a street course was a bunch of quarter pipes and a slider bar. Basically it's bollocks. Bear in mind in that this video came out in the same year as 1281, Not The New H-Street Video, Now 'n' Later and fucking VIDEO DAYS and you'll see how shitty this really is. None of the charm of 80's vert in luminous shorts on gnarly old boards and hardly any of the cutting edge early 90's street skating that was shaping the way we do things now.

Not to mention the fact that I had to perform open heart surgery on my VCR for 2 hours prior to watching this - eventually giving up and pronouncing it dead and transplanting its power supply into the one I found on the pavement last year that's been cluttering up the hall much to my wife's annoyance. At least I now have a working VCR, albeit without a remote and there's no rewind button so I'll have to let every tape play to the end so it auto-rewinds back to the start.

OK, so - don't buy this. Not even if you're drunk and it's on ebay for 99p (what cunt pushed the price up to my max bid of £2.99!?). It's terrible. I also "won" that old Thrasher video Playing In Traffic so fingers crossed it's a bit better, I don't remember watching that one either.

Gorgoroth in Bristol (I know, who'd have thunk it?). Actually really enjoyed it when I thought I was almost totally over all that Norse nonsense. Dug out all my CDs afterwards and everything, Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, Burzum - really enjoying them too.

Went Paintballing with Gav, Damo, Matt and the boys. It was half fun and half shitty, as this graff on the sign outside suggests. The fact that the proprietors haven't even cleaned it off speaks volumes. Good piss up in the pub after. I left before Damo started throwing pints around though.

This dude broke all my plates. I'd just got back from the Big Push with Landscape and was dog tired after a grueling week in my usual Skate-Dad role and French had just got back from the same trip and had brought the whole Antiz team to stay at ours. The last thing I wanted was to have to deal with skateboarders after 7 days of babysitting them but they turned out to be good lads and I had to have a little word with myself. When I'd chilled out and locked myself in my room I heard the most almighty crash from the kitchen. Steve Forstner had gone to take a glass off the washing-up rack and the whole thing collapsed hurling ALL my plates onto the floor. Every one was smashed. Somehow I remained calm and told him not to worry about it. I retired to my room again and about a half hour later I heard the front door close and Steve knocked my door. He'd been out into Brixton and bought me a whole new set of dinner plates. I later also learned that he was incredible on a skateboard after watching an Antiz DVD that French gave me. Just goes to show you can be conscientious and gnarly at the same time. I had no idea. Steve is both.Watch this shit - the kickflip into the bank over the rail at the end will melt your eyes.

Today is the day to celebrate one of the most incredible decade-long periods of mankind's talent for not giving a shit. Today we exalt the true gods on our planet - our mortgages and material possessions, TV talent shows and our head-in-the sand unquestioning consumption of mainstream news.

Ten years ago today three buildings at the World Trade Centre fell down, the Pentagon got hit by something and a large hole in the ground appeared in a field in Pennsylvania. We were told by the news anchors and the mainstream papers how those buildings collapsed and what made those holes in the Pentagon and the field appear and we said thanks for letting us know without asking for any real evidence and got back to watching X-Factor in our rented-from-the-bank homes.

Soon after the US went to war in Afghanistan and Iraq and Britain, like the little bitch we are, followed and got stuck in to killing some little brown people in the name of preventing terrorists from doing something similar in future. Afghans and Iraqis died in huge numbers and relative obscurity news-wise while the odd one or two British troops died here and there and made front page news.

Individuals suspected of involvement with terrorism were re-branded as "Enemy Combatants" and were snatched from all over the world and flown to prison-camps where they were detained without trial and tortured with Deicide at full-tilt (Probably tracks from Insineratehymn - the worst album ever.)

All kinds of draconian laws were introduced here in Britain and other "free-countries" limiting our civil liberties and preventing us from doing all sorts of things including protesting in certain places and taking photographs of the wrong buildings.

And we (and I mean the majority of us including me) just sat on our fat arses and let it all happen.

Most of us didn't question the information we were given because it required no effort to receive that information. Televised news is on just before or after the nation's favourite soap operas and game shows so it just washes over us as we sit eating a takeaway on the sofa. We didn't go out and seek the information from other sources if we were interested in certain aspects of a news story we just assumed that the version of events that the BBC or Sky tell us about is the definitive version.

The newspapers deal in as much celebrity and sports gossip as they do international current affairs so for every story we read about Cheryl Cole's hair extensions we also read one about a foiled threat to an airport or a 19 year old from High Wickham who volunteered to take part in an illegal war and astonishingly got killed on the battlefield.

The last ten years has seen the most advances in communication technology in human history yet we're still happy to receive our news from traditional sources. The advent of widespread internet use has brought us Youtube, Facebook, blogging, tweeting and countless tools for what's become known as citizen journalism and has provided us with many alternative viewpoints and sources yet we're still too lazy to use these for alternatives to the mainstream media.

Personally I've done some research myself and it's helped me to answer some questions I've had on some of the aforementioned events but have you? There are alternatives to the BBC, ITV or Sky but will you look into them? Will you fuck.

So instead here's to another ten years of atrocities with questionable perpetrators, news reports of Islamic terrorists threatening us all in our very homes and scoffing at mentalist conspiracy theory nuts with tin-foil hats.

Here's to Simon Cowell and Cheryl's new teeth. Here's to Arsenal's new striker. Here's to new shoes and unlimited free salad down the Harvester. Here's to paying our mortgages and our credit cards. Here's to the news anchors we know and trust. Here's to passively accepting what we're told by the papers and channels that we really only read and tune into for entertainment but have the power to shape our opinion on the important stuff.

Here's to not giving a shit. Cheers.

This is pretty good, not amazing or perfect but on the right track. It goes a little way to pointing out that you can make something arty but still raw and skate-video-ey instead of slowing everything down to to a squillion frames per second and copying the camera angles from mainstream TV commercials with an HD camera. Ty Evans could do with being given a Hi-8 and a Jessops fisheye again for a while so that he'd learn to chill out on the super-polished yawn-fests he's put out recently. Don't bet on the Chocolate video looking like 20 Shot Sequence or anything but some kind of relaxing of the HD trickery might be nice. I'm all for a bit of jazzy depth of field and everything but in moderation as displayed here.

Oh and ALL jazz sounds this fucking hilarious to me. Niiiice.

So I've always been been pretty psyched on the amount of views my old Day In The City clip has got on Youtube...

109,242 views and counting. Not exactly Loose Change I know but not bad going either and I know Ollie is always stoked on the comments. I guess it just has the right ingredients to come up in searches - black metal, skateboarding, Gorgoroth. It might even get some of BA. KU.'s audience. Anyway, over 100,000 hits is pretty good for something we made in an afternoon. Youtube have also offered me the chance to add advertising to earn money off it but that would involve changing the music so I told them to fuck off.

Why then has this, made in about 15 minutes, got over TWICE as many hits?

And it's not even on my account! Some kid just ragga'd it off the Landscape site. 269,554 views!
Now I'm not going to take away from the skateboarding of Joel and Mark or the lovely December afternoon we spent together (at least the bit in the pub afterwards) but why the fuck is this clip so popular? I've searched for the name of the song and artist on Youtube and this doesn't even come up on the first page so I think we can discount Rosemary Clooney fans. Search for "skateboarding bristol" and again it's nowhere to be seen.

That just leaves Joel and Mark's names. Type "Joel Curtis" and you get the clip at the top of the list or type "Mark Foster" and it's about halfway down. I'm not sure what this proves exactly but Joel and Mark are clearly bigger stars than I thought. This clip has waaaay more hits than ANY of the Landscape or Heroin related clips on Youtube - More than Fos, more than Snowy and more than Howard or Soy and those last two are fairly well known in the states.

So, go Joel and Mark! People love them! Nearly as much as they love a dog that can say "Batman"...

Alongside Bolt Thrower I'd say Deicide have always been my favourite Death Metal band. The first two albums are untouchable and even their weaker work shits on most of the competition - I'm not referring to any post-Hoffman-brothers releases of course, those broke my heart. They even played on my 30th birthday - I'll never have a party as good as that again.

OK, I'm not drunk or anything (yet) and I owe finding this to the ever insightful YWS but I'm pretty sure this is is the funniest skate video I've ever seen. I don't know these dudes but they are some funny cunts for sure. I just sat and laughed out loud at so many bits that I felt weird, maybe it's the prozac.

Anyway, Part 2 starts a little slow but give it a chance - the chroma-keying in the acid section is phenomenal. Oh and the Ke$ha into part makes you want to hit the club with these idiots. All in all a solid 10/10.

Just found this. It's the issue of Viewfinder that made me quit and I haven't seen it since maybe the week after it came out as I couldn't stand to watch it. Shame 'cos there's some good stuff in it. I think I filmed loads of this, I remember being there at least! Benny Fairfax, that was me, Ozzie Ben, that was me and Silvester was definitely me. That ollie attempt at American Express at the end was suicidal, getting away with just the cracked paving slab was a miracle.

So this is a sort of review/comment/rant about that French indie video Minuit. I really like it. I also think it's wank but then so should everyone else that likes it. I'll tell you why.

It's really nicely put together. The editing is snappy and the filming is pretty much all in that super-close-up fisheye style that makes everyone look like Bobby Puleo. You know how I mean - the camera never just stays in one place letting the skater fly past. Instead it follows them from ground level up onto the ledge/bank/whatever and then down to the ground again at the end stopping as the skater rides away. This gives a different kind of feeling of speed and distance and almost always makes the exit look speedy and stylish. Point is, it can make almost ANYTHING look dope. And this video is chock full of "anythings". Dudes basically getting away with murder 'cos they've figured out how to make it look good on camera.

The video is almost all street. Real street. As in bombing down the road popping up and down curbs and not necessarily doing any "bangers". You know - Static, Traffic, fuck, even that last Landscape video (oops!) kind of style. And I like that, I always have. But fuck me running! There's some cheeky shit in this one.

One dude appears to FS 180 over a small gap in the pavement and then switch FS 180s off the curb. And that's a clip. He gets his name on the screen and everything. Another dude effectively rides down some very long, flat steps and ollies off the curb at the bottom. And so on.

Now, I'm straying into a mentality I've never really cared for - the skate-jock mentality. That is to suggest that there's no place for mellow, non-competitive skateboarding in videos and that I'd rather not see top pros fucking around when they should be one-upping each other on the stair counts and flips in and out. Basically an attitude I'm not keen on but one it's easy to assume when watching this vid. I know these dudes are not top pros but some of the tricks they've got in their parts are so easy that it virtually begs for you to sit there shouting "weak!" at the TV.

"The Emperor's New Clothes" is an accusation that has been levelled at plenty of modern videos/skaters/companies but it fits here for me more than ever. But like I said - I like the video. And it has all kind's of shit wrong with it - the arty bits between the skating are far too long and the music is soulless instrumental monotony yet I'd still rather watch this than a new P-Rod or Torey Pudwill part where the technical limits might be being pushed.

Style goes a long way and it's the style that this video is filmed in that makes it work. The filmer really can make any old shit look good. I might see if he can get me in the next one! Oh and it's all filmed at night, cool concept but I think I can see why - the dude's death lens is FUCKED! It has so many scratches around the edge it might have been used as hockey puck. You can't see them so badly in the dark, hence the concept for this video I reckon. Check the last clip where the Jap guy finishes his part in the light - the lens is S C R E W E D.

Anyway, it's a great video that will have plenty of people very happy to see some real skateboarding but probably questioning the legality of some of the tricks. The camera really can lie and it's pants are seriously on fire for much of the vid yet it still contains enough good skateboarding to work. I like it a lot and it has a couple of my good friends in but a part of me feels guilty when I'm watching the easier tricks - but hey, you wait 'til the Tuesday Crue: Bristol Chapter video comes out! Boy will that have some weak moves in it! Maybe 2011 is the year the pressure comes off and we can all get our 15 minutes of video fame. Fuck handrails and stairs - ollie off some curbs.

I picked up the new Sidewalk yesterday so I could see the Witchcraft/Lovenskate tour article. It's been a while since I've read a British mag and as anyone who knows me will tell you, I'm down for UK skateboarding.

This ad however blew my mind. First I didn't know Craig Smedley was on Unabomber - that's a trip eh? I know 'Bomber is owned by totally different people these days and the anarchy and system smashing kind of vibe has gone but still, I thought this dude was all swishy strides and chunky laces?

Then there's this. The interesting new take on the iconic Pete Fowler Unabomber gimp..

Holy fucking shit! I'm assuming this isn't a joke and that board is in production. I'm sure Smedley is a good guy and all but mate, what are you - fucking TWELVE YEARS OLD??

I'm completely clueless with the Graffiti style of "art" (Andy Howell left me cold) but doesn't that look like the Spliffy jeans logo to you? Deformed chunky shoes and a spray can. We live in a fucked up world at the best of times but this ruined/made my day. I know the Fowler graphic is hardly high art and I've never counted myself as a fan exactly but I still recognise it as a classic of British skateboard graphic design.

I can well imagine the design and concept of this board probably came more from the company than the rider but still, didn't he have a say? Worst board of the year and it's only February, good work Unabomber!

French called last night to tell me that Bingo, one of the greatest people I've ever met, died yesterday from a suspected heart attack in his shop Mischief. He was 36 years old.

Every time I visited the North East he was the perfect host, always sharing his spots and skating with us late into the night. I know that anyone who had the good fortune to spend any time with him will be devastated at his passing. He was far too young and far too good to deserve such an early ending and leaves a big hole in the lives of Teeside skateboarders and those in the rest of the country too for that matter.

Why do the good guys go first? In this case it really isn't fair.

Rest in peace Bingo, you made such a difference.

P.S. There is a skate jam on Sunday at Five Bridges in Newcastle so if you're in the area you should turn up and shred for him.

Thanks to Gav I got to fulfill a childhood dream and see The Cult. Fuck knows why I never got around to it before, I've always been pretty much obsessed with the Electric album. It's one of a few (ok, several - I'm a fucking nerd) albums that I own on vinyl, cassette and CD and I remember getting ready to go out drinking once and putting it on after I'd showered. I air-guitar'd so hard in front of the mirror for the whole thing that I had to get re-showered before I hit the pub.

Anyway, we sat through what seemed like hours of new material (and by that I mean anything after Sonic Temple) to get to the classics. It was worth it though...

I still love skate videos. Even after all these years. From the first glimpse I got of Public Domain in the art room at school that left me shaking for hours afterwards I was obsessed. I'd had a skateboard for ages and skated every free moment I got but it took at least a year for me to get to see a video or anything other than Back To The Future. We didn't have a VCR in my house so I was really behind. Seeing Public Domain was like having been crazy about football for a whole year but never having seen footage of anyone else playing it and then being shown highlights of Brazil's greatest moments. It felt that amazing. Even now, I still love skate videos as much.

So, 2010 is almost done and it's been a cracking year for vids. There have been some big releases we've waited ages for and some surprises that we weren't expecting. Here's my top 10 or so... in reverse order..

10 - Etnies - Transworld: Skate and Create 2010.

Fuuuuck! How much did this piss on the competition?!? Fuck Lakai's multi-camera tracking-shot flaming-wank-fest and the other entries that tried that formula but looked positively amateur next to Ty's polished professionalism. The attention to detail in the Etnies part made the others look ill-thought out and off the cuff. The 90's clothes screened with tribute graphics, likewise the boards and the appearances from Kareem and J-Wray not to mention Kosick in full sitting Buddah photo pose all made the technical filmmaking and choreography of the others seem irrelevant. Remember most skateboarders are nerdy about skateboarding much more than they are about filmmaking. At least they should be.
Etnies pressed the reset button on Skate and Create this year so let's hope next year's contest sees the dollys left at home and the imaginations going wild. This was robbed of the win.

9. BA: KU - Stay Gold Secret Part

No surprises I'd include this I suppose. No justification for it's place in the top ten needed.

8. Andrew Allen - Prevent This Tragedy.

You either get this guy or you don't. And I really do. How nice is it to see a street skater these days who's not a skinny little oik with the right jeans and the right hair? Allen's a big old lump who slams hard and shakes the earth and makes all skateboarders over 13 stone feel better about themselves. Oh and did you notice the extent of his Switchery? And I mean sensible tricks too, not the techno flipouts that look pretty much the same no matter which way round you put your feet. I mean back tails on manly hubbas and simple lines that allow you to see how he holds himself when skating switch. That's how I measure a skater's switch skills - does he look good going backwards? Not whether he can replicate all the hardest moves. Andrew Allen does the classic shit and it's really fucking easy on the eyes.

7. Leo Romero - Stay Gold (Video unavailable as Emerica must have good lawyers which is totally fair enough)

Skater Of The Year then? Yeah why not? I'd rather watch Leo hurl himself with great speed at these monster obstacles than most other soulless rail jockeys that breed like rabbits in southern California. His going up the handrail is a milestone that everyone will remember - maybe for the fact that it looked way better in the photo than it did on video. But then how are you gonna roll away fast after you've just 5050'd up 10 stairs*? Besides, the speed he takes that gap to second-kink front feeble at more than makes up for any slow exit on his ender. Seriously - the front feeble is the trick of the section. Do you have the balls to deliberately hang up going backwards down a kinked rail? 'Cos that's essentially what a front feeble is.
Anyway, SOTY or not, he's a worthy pretender to Heath's throne and may yet prove himself to be worthy of the same legend status. More on that later.

* I didn't count them, 10 seems fair though.

6. Dylan Rieder - Gravis promo.

Notable as much for the format as the skating this section became legendary literally overnight. Releasing a full part on the web and not as part of a full video is clearly going to be not just an alternative to the DVD - it's going to be the norm. Even the rich shoe companies will be rethinking if it's financially viable to release a hard copy of future videos anymore. This 8 minute promo has done more for Gravis and for Dylan than they could have hoped for if they'd tried to sell it and everybody has taken note.
Anyway, that aside this kid clearly had something to prove. Even if it was only that he was more than a wacky hipster shoe (which he is) he goes above and beyond to show that he's more talented than half of his team mates at Alien, some of whom are making the Sect look uncool for the first time in it's history (which Dyrdek and Berra most certainly are). Words don't do the quality of the skating justice and I urge anyone not feeling his trousers to look past them and see what the fuss is all about.

5. Emmanuel Guzman - Prevent This Tragedy.

I'll just say it. You'll kick off but I'll say it anyway. This dude is (pretty much) the new Cardiel.
OK, OK calm down. You should be able to agree with me a bit if not completely. Watch the section again, or indeed any of his other parts out there - he fucking CHARGES. He RIDES a skateboard rather than just standing on it. Watch what this guys does to make a trick, if it's not Cards he's channelling it's Howard Cooke or Jason Jesse if he skated street. Check the 5050 at 1:44 - both feet completely off on the exit and swimming backwards just like Cardiel to keep his balance. Fucking amazing. Apparently very loyal to Santa Cruz he may not reach the wide audience he deserves but make sure you seek out anything he does in future. You can tell he's just getting started.

4.5 (I have to do this to fit more in) Heath Kirchart - Stay Gold Secret part. (Video unavailable again).

I won't get too emo about this but yeah - it's really sad he's bowed out. But then he knows what he's doing and we'd rather he didn't turn into Muska or something (unlikely I know). Anyway, in the second half of the section where he's wearing all white you probably spat your beer out like I did when he kickflipped the hydrant during that hill bomb. Trick of the fucking video and it's hidden in the chapters menu. Unbelievable. And flipping the car off afterwards? Classic Heath. He'll be missed.

4. Austyn Gillete - Habitat: Origin. (His part starts around 6 mins in)

Holy shit! Really? I can't say I even noticed him in Inhabitants over three years ago and now this?! Wowzer. Sometimes you can really see when somebody has stepped it up a gear and this is the classic example. This is surely how we all wish we skated right? Long flowing lines with all the right tricks, not making it look too easy but clearly being the best dude at the session. Although the skating-alone-vibe really shines through this part, whether or not that's actually the case I don't know but he seems like he's cruising around on his own time, not waiting for the van to be loaded up and the flashes to be broken down.
The line in Germany with the two alleyoop 5050s on the benches is one of the most unexpected rewinds in recent video history and stands out amongst the so-called creativity of most thinking-man's pros. None of this part seems too contrived though - he's not bringing back the front foot flip or flipping in and out of every trick, he's just skating. Fast, powerful and exactly how I skate in my not-often-enough skate dreams.

3. Stephen Fry - Intelligence Squared Debate.

Very nearly the best part of the year but missed out due to the fact that Stephen doesn't actually skate. Still, at 19 minutes it's longer than Marc Johnson's part and nowhere near as self-indulgent.
What he lacks in back tails and switch heels Stephen makes up for in speaking more sense than anyone in the public eye has had the balls to do in quite some time. The Catholic church deserves all it gets (not that it gets nearly enough in my opinion) and until the heroes of the common man stand up and say something accessible like this we'll never wake up from our collective trance and kick these evil cunts off our planet.
OK, on with the list.

2. In Search Of The Miraculous - Pontus Alv.

I'm not just singling out Pontus' own part from this vid, although it's very good - the whole video is phenomenally good. Quite amazing in fact. It may appear to take itself quite seriously at times but not to the point where it disappears up it's own arse. The editing is beautiful, the music likewise (although Pontus must have been gutted when Heath used that Joy Division tune too) and the skateboarding varied and captivating. What's really special here though is the spots and their creators struggle. The word inspiration doesn't quite cover what this video dishes out in spades - Pontus and his friends are really special skateboarders who have enriched their lives with huge amounts or determination and dedication to creativity.
I realise building spots is nothing new and that there are some much grander scale erections over the pond but the accessibility of the spots in this video speak to every viewer in a way that no footage of Burnside could do. One of Pontus' most well known spots in this video is essentially an alleyway, telling us that we don't necessarily need a perfect under-bridge area to make our own.
It's the feel of this video that works for me and the skateboarding just happens to be great too. Go buy one off Pontus' website - the independent skateboard DVD will soon be a thing of the past, enjoy them while they're around.

1. Krooked 3D (Video unavailable and rightly so, buy one cheapskate!)

Yes, again, the whole video. It's not really in sections anyway. So, Krooked figured out a way to sell DVDs in this time of download piracy and recession - make a video that needs an accompanying accessory, in this case 3D glasses. And yeah it's the crappy old school 3D that doesn't always work that well but that suits Gonz' lo-fi-aesthetic down to the ground.
This video couldn't be more up my alley if it tried. Taking skateboarding less seriously is a fucking good idea when you get to my age and to see pro skaters sessioning a curb is the kind of thing that keeps me interested when all the other vids are full of super human feats.
Nobody gets the essence of skateboarding like Gonz, or is able to communicate it so perfectly just by stepping on it and pushing down the street. He's as likely to slappy a curb as he is to attack a double-set (yo!) and the unpredictability factor keeps your attention whenever he's on screen. His new wunderkinds are pretty fucking good to. Mike Anderson is ridiculous and sits perfectly next to Bobby Worrest who's basically a god in my eyes. These two make this video stand apart from previous Krooked vids with some seriously gnarly street skating. Bobby's line downhill at speed with the switch crook and the switch tre is so sick - these guys might get paid to fuck about for 90% of the time but they're better than half the fuckwits with their names on boards out there.
OK, I'm done - this video rules. Best of 2010 and it's not like there was no competition. Krooked is fast becoming my favourite company and I don't even like the graphics.

Honourable mention must go to...
Beauty And The Beast 3 for being the biggest let-down of the year - what the fuck happened? Ed's three tricks in the Toy Machine vid almost ruined by that Christian penis Josh Harmony coming on straight afterwards. Braydon Szafranski's weak attempt at a pro standard part in Stay Gold - ditch the waistcoats and maybe practice a bit mate.

I still have a packet of "Billy's Nuts" bolts that he gave me in NYC a few years ago. The packaging is amazing - a photo of him in a straight jacket with a couple of hot nurses, so good. Anyway, watch this clip - Wu-Tang, swords and the best skateboarder in New York, what's not to like?

While I'm on the subject this is good too. What he says about New York being the biggest small town in the world is so true. I remember bumping into him twice in one day once. First was that spot with the two glass-brick bank-to-walls with the channel between them in Brooklyn where I was filming with Fiske and Billy showed up in a sharp suit with his Mum. He gave us a bagel with peanut butter in.

Later that day we stopped by KCDC and he was skating the mini-ramp in the same suit and dress shoes doing crazy lines with switch blunts on the extension. Fucking ridiculous. Anyway, watch this...

I'm not entirely sure Alex Olson will be too stoked on this episode but really - who gives a shit? Since the demise of Big Brother it's been left to bloggers to say anything remotely controversial these days. Regular mags can't do it as they'll get their advertising pulled. O'Dell has nothing to lose. Vice are paying not Dwindle or DC. He can risk it on these shows and I for one wish he'd risk it and push a little further.

Dedicating 10 minutes to the way a skater looks is fucking great - we all know how fucking boring skateboard journalism is for the most part. Tour articles and the same old questions and answers with pro after pro. I want more off the wall crap like Todd Falcon, the Bong Olympics and Andy Roy interviews.
Not that Dylan's sartorial decisions compare to any of the aforementioned but episodes like this are a step in the right direction.
